UPDATED FEB 2020. I was so excited to finally visit Greece because it has been on my bucket list since forever. I remember going on some early dates with my husband to get Greek food and talking over gyros about how one day we would love to take a trip together to eat real Greek food in Greece. Maybe that sentimental value is why I was so excited, but either way, we got there and it was just magical. Far greater than what I had imagined. I spent a whirlwind long weekend on the island of Corfu and beach hopped my way through the different beaches on the north half of the island. I’m sharing them here today with this guide of the best beaches in Corfu and some tips on how to plan a weekend visit.

1. Porto Timoni
There are a couple of options to get to this beach.
Firstly, you could go to the beach at Agios Georgios Pagon and take a small boat across to Porto Timoni.
If you are feeling more active and want to see some impressive coastline views, you can hike there.
Use ‘Porto Timoni Beach’ in Google Maps and it will take you to the last street before the hike.
You can park on the side of the road there then follow the street up to the hike. As you face the water you have a choice to go left for Agios Georgios Pagon trail or right which will take you down to Porto Timoni.
However you get there, you will have beautiful, sparkling water to enjoy once you are there.
One side has more of a green hue and the other is bright, clear blue. Both will leave you saying ‘wow’.
2. Bataria Kassiopi
Bataria Kassiopi is a great local beach especially if you like to snorkel.
There are many other small beaches and coves nearby which gives you a lot to explore in the area.
The pebbled beaches and tranquil, clear water, and tavernas make this a cool spot to visit. Keep an eye out for critters like Octopus in the water too because this area is a popular spot to find them hiding.
3. Paleokastritsa
This is one of the most popular areas of Corfu, if not the most popular so be prepared for crowds. It’s also good to go early to get a parking spot at one of the many beaches.
I spent my time here at Agios Spiridon Beach before moving on to get away from the crowds.
It’s a popular spot for good reason – the clear and picturesque water is a dreamy place to cool off. There is a sandy beach for tanning and the surrounding mountains provide opportunities for a little cliff jumping.
The snorkeling is decent, especially if you explore around the rocks where you can see lots of fish and starfish.
As it’s a popular tourist spot, the area is loaded with restaurants, gift shops, fruit vans and you can even rent water equipment such as paddle boats.
4. Avlaki
If you want a quiet beach with dazzling, crystal clear water in the bluest of blue shades, then head over to Avlaki beach.
It’s a fun spot to put a mask on and swim around, looking at the pretty colors underwater.
Even looking at the water from above is mesmerizing because it sparkled as the light hit it.
It’s a quiet beach but still has a couple of tavernas in the area and there was a tropical fruit van driving up and down the day I was there.
It’s definitely a nice spot to relax on the beach, take a dip and get some great beach vacation photos.
5. Barbati
Barbati beach is like a more commercialized version of Avlaki beach.
It also has gorgeous, sparkling blue water, though it is lined with beach chairs for rent, more beachgoers and tavernas.
There is still space on the beach for those who don’t want to rent a beach chair – you can just walk further down past the rows of chairs.
It’s a nice spot to snorkel, especially if you swim out to the grassy area and/or over to the rocks.
Make sure to look back at the beach to see the view of the mountain behind it because it’s quite an impressive sight.
6. Kerasia
Kerasia was a great beach for snorkeling with lots of little critters and fish to see.
Depending on where you get into the water, you may want to bring water shoes because the shallow entry is rocky with some urchins in the rocks.
If you prefer a relaxing beach visit, you can laze on the pebbled beach and look out at the view of Albania.
Where to stay in Corfu
I stayed at Satori Boutique Hotel which was located in Acharavi.
It is a perfect location for beach hopping because all of the beaches I mentioned in the post are a short drive away.
Satori has a delicious breakfast buffet and it’s about 2 minutes walk to the beach that has AMAZING tavernas.
It’s also very family-friendly with a pool and a lot of pool toys for kids.
If you prefer something else though, I recommend searching on Booking.com because this is what I use to book accommodation and I can always find a good deal there.
Do you need a car to visit Corfu?
It’s best to have a car if you want to have a beach-hopping weekend as the buses don’t go to all the beaches.
If you won’t be able to rent a car, I recommend staying in Old Town because then you will have more access to public transport.
What snorkeling gear to take with you
Here is the gear I pack for snorkeling days:
- DaFin Hawaii fins
- Mask and snorkel – best to get this in person to get the best size for you. I prefer dry snorkels that have a valve at the top and bottom.
- Lightweight towel
- GoPro
- GoPole Evo (floaty underwater selfie stick)
- Sunscreen and hat
- Water bottle

I dream of going to Corfu! My friend’s parents are originally from Corfu and they speak so fondly about this Greek Island. The beaches in your post are all absolutely spectacular! I want to go to them all.
Wow, that’s so cool! I’m the same – I want to see all the islands!
With all those white sandy beaches and the shining sun beaming down on you, Corfu seems a da little piece of heaven on Earth ! Wow, beach boasts a shore with soft sands washed by amazing blue green waters… just my little dream 😉
Definitely a little piece of heaven!
Wow! The beaches look so clean an beautiful. I could really do with a nice long quiet vacation in a place like this. It feels so good to know that there are some places that remain untouched by human influence.
It was definitely very beautiful but still I saw a lot more trash than I would like to have seen. Human influence has definitely impacted the area unfortunately.
I dream about going to Corfu after reading Durrell’s “My Family and Other Animals”. And your photos look right from the book – all those coves and hidden beaches and crystal clear water. Thanks so much for the post and the inspiration!
I gotta check out that book – thanks for mentioning it!
wowzer, i want to go here right now. The water is so clear and such cool photos from snorkling!
Thank you so much Makenzie! The water was definitely very beautiful!
One of these days, I’ll finally make it to Corfu…super high on my bucket list but tickets are always so expensive from Germany!
I’ll send you lots of good luck that one of the airlines has a big sale soon! <3
